About the UPP
The Ultimate Picture Palace is Oxford’s oldest and only independent cinema. With only one screen we can afford to be picky and show only the best of the mainstream as well as classics, epics, indies, foreign, documentaries and even the occasional musical!
The wonderful art-deco auditorium has 116 seats and the small bar at the back serves drinks and snacks for you to take to your seats before the start of the film.
We don’t show adverts - just one or two trailers for upcoming films - which means the feature starts promptly at the advertised time.
We are open every day of the week for two evening screenings, with matinees on Saturday, Sunday and Thursday.
Other regular special screenings:
Classic Films (Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings). Themed seasons.
Subtitled screenings (Tuesdays, early evenings). Unless there is a special event, our early evening film on Tuesdays will always be a subtitled screening of that week’s main feature.
Kids Club (Saturday 14:00). After lunch screenings for 3-12 year olds. No unaccompanied adults.
Baby Club (Thursdays, doors open at 12:00). Lunchtime screenings exclusively for parents with babies under 1 year old.
Friday Late (University term time. Start times usually 11pm - see programme for details). Cult classics to carry you through the witching hour.
