The Wizard of OzU

Directed by Victor Fleming | USA | 1939 | 1h 42m | Starring Judy Garland, Margaret Hamilton, Bert Lahr, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley.

A tornado tears through the black-and-white world of Kansas whisking Dorothy (and her dog Toto) to the magical, technicolour kingdom of Oz. Realising that there’s no place like home, she follows the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City – with the help of a scarecrow, a tinman, and a lion – so that she can return to her life in Kansas. However, The Wicked Witch of the West is determined to stop their adventure. A masterpiece of 1930s cinema that remains a cornerstone of American cultural history thanks to its memorable characters and magnificent songs.

Join us on New Years Eve and again on Bank Holiday Monday (2nd Jan) for screenings of new documentary Lynch/Oz – which draws parallels between David Lynch’s work and Victor Flemings’ 1939 family classic – and Lynch’s cult road-movie Wild At Heart. Use the link underneath for more info.

‘One of Hollywood’s quintessential productions, this musical adaptation of L Frank Baum’s classic fable is probably the most beloved fantasy film of all time and the ultimate family picture.’
