It's more than a month since we held our public meeting at the cinema – thanks so much to everyone who came along – and much has been happening behind the scenes.

Some successes
The committee has successfully registered a Community Benefit Society and has recently won a couple of big bids to gain financial support for the project. One grant is from the Community Shares Booster Programme, and the other comes from Reach - two funders that are all about encouraging and supporting projects that have their communities at heart. It's taken a huge amount of work from the volunteers on the committee to get this far, but it's great news. Now we can push ahead with what needs to happen next.

What's next
The next steps are filling out the business plan and share offer document, and creating a community engagement plan, to make sure we have clear goals for how to connect with different groups in the local area. We are working with some community-ownership experts who are helping us create the best share offer possible, so we're giving ourselves extra time to make this happen – we're now planning to launch the share offer in early 2020.

We're also putting in a bid to get matched funding for our shares. If we're successful, it would mean that every £100 you give will be doubled, up to a maximum of £100k of matched funding. This would be an amazing help in us reaching our target and buying the business. Fingers crossed.

A great (and free) way you can help
And while all this happens, I'd like to ask if you could do one thing. Do you know anyone who might want to support the UPP community cinema too? A friend, a colleague, or a business contact? If you do, please let them know what we're trying to do and point them towards the information on our website. If you'd like us to contact them, we'd be happy to do so. Just let us know by emailing us at:

Thank you again for supporting the UPP and helping our local independent cinema.
